Branded residences: Dubai’s fast growing asset class
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Saadiyat Island, due to be opened in 2013, will also include 180 branded residences. Aldar’s Gurm Resort (72 rooms), Four Seasons Saadiyat (125 rooms), MGM Hotel Residences (500 rooms) and St Regis Saadiyat (280 rooms) are other projects which will include hotel branded residences.
Abu Dhabi reports 29% increase in Saudi tourists
Abu Dhabi’s leisure offering has been boosted this year by the opening of two 18-hole championship-ready golf courses. The Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, on the signature Saadiyat Island, is the Arabian Gulf’s only “ocean” course, designed by Gary Player. Yas Links, on Yas Island was designed by Kyle Phillips and has eight holes running along the coastline with all 18 holes having fabulous Arabian Gulf views.

That project is one year away — the reason for that delay is not only constructional, it’s also management. We made a decision and that decision is the right one I’m sure. So that set us back a bit, but what’s interesting about that is we were the first into Saadiyat Island.
Four more hotels planned for Saadiyat Island
Abu Dhabi-based Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC) will be developing a further four hotels for Saadiyat Beach on Saaidyat Island.
Etihad to lure more tourists to UAE
Etihad Airways is aiming to lure more tourists to Abu Dhabi and encourage business travellers to extend their trips by launching a company to organise tours, desert safaris, hotel stays and other services. The company, Hala Abu Dhabi, will be based in the capital but its services will be offered nationwide. More than half of the tourism professionals working for the company are Emiratis, Etihad said.
Accor to expand in Abu Dhabi
Philippe Baretaud, the director of development at Accor Middle East, said the company was also keen to have a Sofitel hotel on Saadiyat Island. “We are adamant to have the brand represented as a representation of French luxury and especially with the Louvre [due to open on Saadiyat Island in 2012] it makes sense.”
Etihad Airways aims to attract more Tourists to the Emirates
Abu Dhabi, by 2012, plans to have 2.3 million hotel guests per year. The emirate is investing heavily in the tourism infrastructure, with developments such as Yas Island, Yas Marina Circuit, and Saadiyat Island. On the island, Guggenheim and Louvre museums shall be located. Last year there were 1.5 millionhotel guests and this year the figure may well be above 1.6 million.
