Building resumes on Dh700m Dubai project
Al Habtoor Leighton is one of about 11 firms that have pre-qualified to build the Louvre Abu Dhabi and it is also bidding for the Guggenheim museum. Both form part of the Cultural District at Saadiyat Island, a project by the Tourism Development and Investment Company (TDIC).
TDIC, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank sign home financing deal
Tourism Development & Investment Co, a state-owned developer of hotels in Abu Dhabi, signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank to provide home financing on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island. TDIC has signed mortgage agreements with numerous banks including Standard Chartered, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and National Bank of Abu Dhabi.
TDIC Home Finance offerings expand with ADIB
TDIC and ADIB are offering a unique home finance package for potential Saadiyat Island residents, which includes finance of up to 85% and competitive profit rates starting from 6.0%. The package offers tenures of up to 25 years without processing or any other fees and deferment of up to 10% of the down payment to near handover date. This Islamic home finance will supplement the existing home finance agreements already facilitated on the island.
TDIC grants extension to Louvre contract tender
The Tourism, Development and Investment Company has granted an extension to companies submitting tenders for the main contract for Abu Dhabi’s Louvre museum by almost four weeks.
Saadiyat Beach Apartments to be ready by 2011
The first phase of the beach apartments to be set up on Saadiyat Island would be prepared for delivery by December next year as announced by the Tourism Development and Investment Company.

Saadiyat Island is one of the Arabian Gulf’s largest single mixed-used developments. Saadiyat Cultural District will include some of the world’s most significant museums including the Sheikh Zayed National Museum, the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi and the Louvre Abu Dhabi as well as more than one million square feet of mixed-use facilities.

Abu Dhabi’s marinas are lovely but where are the sailors?
I get a sinking feeling whenever I walk into the Yacht Club at the Intercontinental Hotel in Abu Dhabi. It’s not that I don’t enjoy the classy drinks, beautiful people or luxurious sofas, but the venue lacks an essential ingredient: sailors.
